Trinidad And Tobago

I have never been to South America so I was excited to go to the island Trinidad (in North America) since it's just 11 km off the coast from Venezuela, so I would be able to see it in the horizon with my own eyes. 




I was so close to being in South America but instead my friend Christofer and I would go up north again with our cruise ship, after our visit to one of the 23 islands that make up Trinidad And Tobago.
The capital that we visited was called Port Of Spain oddly enough, maybe they should have renamed it since Spain hasn't been in charge of the country since 1797.

I had three things on my to do-list; I was gonna drink coconut straight from the fruit, dance limbo since it's invented on the island and smoke a cigar, even though I despise tobacco. The name Tobago probably stem from the second biggest island in the country being shaped like a cigar. Well I failed everything except for the limbo part.

We went off the cruise ship and hit the city and we were thinking we must be lost, because all we saw were gray and dull worn-down buildings where half of the city seemed to be auto repair shops. I checked the map to make sure we weren't in a ghetto, but the map told us we were straight in the heart of the city center. That's when we realized this won't be a fun day.

We went up to the Queen's Park Savannah, the largest open space in the city and up to this point I had focused on the park part and forgot the savannah part of the name. I wasn't hoping for much but it was just a huge space of nothing but dry grass that had lost its green colour.

Not a human in sight except for some homeless people sleeping on some benches, and a small lizard running by. Instead we focused on the landmark of the city, The Magnificent Seven, seven grand houses that stands next to the park.




 It was alright to watch them I guess, but I was also getting bored of this country already.




The house that stood out the most was the last, which is called Stollmeyer's Castle.




I started to understand why artists like Nicki Minaj and Haddaway left the country as soon as they could. Unlike most of the other Caribbean islands, both Trinidad and Tobago have frequently escaped the wrath of major devastating hurricanes, but still the majority of the city looked worse than the other islands. Trinidad was also the earliest settled part of the Caribbean some 7000 years ago, so they can't say they haven't had the time to make it look more appealing.

Trinidad and Tobago is supposed to be the most developed nation and one of the wealthiest in the Caribbean and is listed in the top 40 of the high-income countries in the world. I guess this must be because of all the cocaine going through the country from South America to the United States, because it looked like a dump to me and I limbo'd my way out of it as quick as possible.

When I got back to Sweden from my Caribbean cruise some weeks later, I felt it's time to visit South America for the first time since I had been so close, so I booked a trip to Colombia!

* Best things about Trinidad And Tobago – the steel pan was invented here and it's one of my favorite instruments, I got to hear some beautiful melodies while visiting and I even got to try and play, it was much harder than it looked!

* Most mediocre thing about Trinidad And Tobago – The Magnificent Seven was more like The Alright Seven

* Worst things about Trinidad And Tobago – all the other stuff, I was happy to leave

After my horrendous first trip to Africa when I went to Morocco, the worst country I've visited so far, I wasn't looking forward to travel to Egypt anymore. This was the first time I had no enthusiasm for going travelling and when we got there I could see the same poverty as in Morocco. Morocco

 Hello Africa! Tell me how you're doin'? My friend Karl-Henrik and I arrived in Marrakech in Morocco at night after a long day of flying with a stopover in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. It was my first time in Africa and the last continent to discover if you don't count Antarctica. We were welcomed by chaos in the traffic where a guy casually ate a sandwich at the same time as he almost crashed his motorcycle with no helmet on his head. He then drove against red light, parked in the middle of the junction and then started to drive against the traffic. It turned out he wasn't suicidal, it's just how they do it here. When we arrived at the riad a guy quickly took my bag out of the truck and headed into an sketchy alleyway and I wasn't sure if he just stole my bag or worked for the riad. Poland

Me and my mute girlfriend Felicia went on a cruise from Karlskrona in Sweden to Gdynia in Poland to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. She isn't really mute but this time around she was because she was so sick that she couldn't speak. It was a weird and frustrating feeling not to be able to communicate with her but as soon as we arrived in Poland, she got a bit better at least! The boat trip wasn't that nice, it felt like a boat that had been left behind from the 80's and maybe not cleaned since then. And drunk Swedish men spoke openly about going to Poland to have sex with prostitutes. When we arrived in the harbour of Gdynia we were met by a gray fog called Poland. We had just one day to see the three cities of Gdynia, Sopot and Gdansk that have grown together as one.
