Jamaica

The DJ in the cruise port of Ocho Rios welcomed my friend Andreas and I with Bob Marley songs, while overseeing one of the greenest islands from our balcony. I was eager to get off the boat to go to the nearby Mystic Mountain. Right outside of the port I haggled with taxi drivers, who tried to charge a too high price and told me to walk when I said I would pay half. When I started to walk he came back to me and said "OK the price is fine!". I asked if I could pay by card but I couldn't so he would drive me in to town, which was like 3 minutes away, so I could withdraw money, but that would cost me extra of course. They just tried to get every penny of me they could and I'm so bored with that. For me it's better if you act nice and then you can get a tip instead, instead of trying to take 40 dollars for a 5 minute ride. It turned out the trip to withdraw the money was almost longer than the ride to Mystic Mountain, so we should have just walked there. Especially...

Saint Lucia

Image
Saint Lucia is the only country in the world named after a woman. It was named by the French, who were the island's first European settlers. Great Britain and France then fought about the right to the country because of the sugar farms, and it changed ownership 14 times. The harbour of the capital Castries was protected by a system of 60 surrounding forts. Nowadays when Saint Lucia has gotten its independence it has not even got a regular military force since they have such good connections to all other countries, kind of ironic.  My friend Christofer and I arrived with a cruise ship to the harbour of Castries and nowadays they didn't shoot at us at our arrival. Instead they were so kind that they took us out for a catamaran sailing down the west coast, and it looked amazing even though the weather was a bit unsteady. The volcanic island is more mountainous than most Caribbean islands and it was completely green of all the palm trees and other greenery. Colourful houses p...

Barbados

Barbados is both a famous spot for tourists in the Caribbean and the name of a famous Swedish "dansband" (dance band in English). It's a cheezy music genre that's popular in Sweden for old people to dance pair dance to. It resembles how the music from Eurovision Song Contest used to sound before they got modernized. I guess the gay singer of the band Barbados didn't know that homosexual acts are illegal in Barbados and that the colonial era law bears a maximum sentence of life in prison for being gay. Maybe the band would have chosen another exotic name then. I prefer the musicians from the island Barbados instead of the Swedish "dansband", both Rihanna and Grandmaster Flash originated from Barbados, which used to be colonized by Great Britain. This is why they still speak English which the tourists can appreciate.  My friend Christofer and I arrived by a cruise ship and after heading into the capital of Bridgetown to get some Barbadian Dollars we...
