Saint Vincent And The Grenadines
My friend Christofer and I arrived with a cruise ship at one of the 32 islands that make up Saint Vincent And The Grenadines. The control over the country has been shifted several times between Britain and France since the 1700s, and 1979 Saint Vincent And The Grenadines was the last of the Windward Islands (the southern, generally larger islands of the Lesser Antilles, within the West Indies) to become independent. English is still the official language though. We arrived at the main island Saint Vincent and the capital of Kingstown, not to be confused with Kingston, the capital at Jamaica, where I wished I was instead. Especially when we went off the cruise ship and expected the sunny Caribbean weather and instead got a hard rain in our face and gray skies. Christofer wanted to turn around before we even hit the markets in the city center, but I convinced him to keep on going while I bought an overpriced umbrella.
